I don’t really know the origins of this “colloquialism” but I wish it would stop. Now. Maybe it came from that Valley Girl song some years ago by Zappa’s daughter Moon Unit. Perhaps it has deeper roots buried in the California mainstream and has migrated across the whole of the rest of the country.
