Yesterday was Fat Tuesday, traditionally the day before Ash Wednesday in the Catholic faith, where the faithful throw lavish celebrations before 40 days of Lent fasting. The most spectacular of these bashes occurs in Brazil in Rio de Janiero.
The Brazilian Carnival, properly spelled Carnaval, is held four days before Ash Wednesday, and is highlighted by the world’s most lavish and gaudy parade. Costumes of every color in the spectrum are accompanied by festive music, bone shattering drums and writhing, beautiful Brazilian women. A Carnival in Rio puts any Mardi Gras bash in New Orleans to shame.
