A tribute to John Cleese – for no reason at all

picture 116 A tribute to John Cleese for no reason at allI’ve been a fan of John Cleese ever since the first episodes of Monty Python’s Flying Circus hit the airwaves way back when. The tallest of the troupe, Cleese not only stood a head above all the other members but also gave the most to each skit in which he performed.

In my opinion, his most stunning performances were in the Fawlty Towers series. Twelve short episodes of some of the most well thought out, convoluted plot twists and buffoonery ever presented on TV. Today, at age 79, he still maintains his bizarre sense of humor wrapped in a thick coating of wisdom and erudition. I believe Cleese is a closet genius.

I thought I’d run some John Cleese humor on SPT all week, a little bit at a time. British humour must be experienced by us Yanks and no one pulls it off better than John Cleese.

And now for something completely… you know the rest.

Classic sketch, Ministry of Silly Walks

Cleese introduces himself as a spokesman for Compaq computers.

A fish called Compaq. Get a load of the stats on this computer.

A very nice box.

Fawlty Towers was perhaps the best stuff on TV. His stress level was nerve racking

I agree. And to this very day, when my wife’s talking on the phone, I’ll sometimes walk by and say in a high voice, “I know, I know.”
