Nitrous + Fire

picture 33 Nitrous + FireThis is scary. A guy at the track starting line has himself a little under-the-hood fire. He also has a nitrous setup to increase his horsepower. Things get out of control quite quickly.

But I thought nitrous oxide was non-flammable. How could one blame this on the nitrous? This from Wikipedia:

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”, is a chemical compound with the chemical formula N2O. At room temperature, it is a colorless non-flammable gas, with a pleasant, slightly sweet odor and taste. It is used in surgery and dentistry for its anesthetic and analgesic effects. It is known as “laughing gas” due to the euphoric effects of inhaling it, a property that has led to its recreational use as an inhalant drug. It is also used in motor racing as an oxidizer to increase the power output of engines.

Maybe a broken nitrous line is spraying on a broken fuel line. If anyone has any ideas as to what could have possibly caused this inferno, leave a comment.

INFLAMMABLE means FLAMMABLE? Actually, the nitrous has nothing to do with this fire. The fact is, nitrous is not flammable. It cools the air into the combustion chamber. Very dense allowing more air and essetially more fuel. So, in terms, it is a raw fuel leak at the engine powered by an electronic fuel pump in a fuel cell. The fire was all gas. Nitrous had nothing to do with this accident. To rid the emergency, the car should have been equipt with a fuel pump kill switch.
