Here’s a new twist on a d.i.y. PC case, namely an open air chassis called the Skeleton, in which all the components just slide right in.
The Skeleton is less a case or enclosure for your PC and more of a rack. An open rack. A rack meant to mimic open test beds, only with a little more structural integrity. It’s a framework built to securely hold all your PC components out in the open.
Why didn’t someone think of this sooner? (Maybe someone had and sold it to this manfacturer.) I’ve often entertained thoughts about building a computer but all of the cool cases just look so lame. This one may be up my alley. If someone slaps me in the face with wad of money.
The Skeleton carries a list price of about $189 with no power supply, though we regularly see it online in the $150–160 range. That’s a bit steep, but this is a bit of a specialty item made for a narrow market segment.
If you’re interested, check out this article which is a review on this novel frame idea. (My sympathies for linking to a post with a bunch of Nexts to read. But, hey. The link opens in a new window, so no big deal, ok?)
