BMW’s GINA has some skin

BMW has pulled out all the stops in their R&D department. The engineers there have come up with this outlandish idea of using a cloth skin to define the shape of the automobile. After watching the video, I thought to myself, “Hey. This might actually work.”

The skin blends nicely with the contours of the body but when the door opens, you get some creases just like in a set of well-worn jeans. Understand that this is purely a concept vehicle and the guys are toying with the idea of form and function. How well the public will take to this is another story.

Some pics and more stuff after the jump.
