When a submarine dives deeper than its design depth, it risks the danger of an implosion. The outside pressure becomes greater than the pressure inside and something has to give. We’ve all seen videos of imploding buildings, but those are not true implosions.

Shown below is a short demonstration of an implosion using a railroad tank car. The air was pumped out with the vent cap closed. Watch as the design limit is exceeded.
